Introducing DEXDIA GX to a Wider Audience
After extensive research, development, and testing the DEXDIA GX is now finally available on our website.
Over the past 18 months we've gone through many prototype iterations and design improvements.
The current version has been in regular use by kinesiologists and physical therapists for over six months. That real‑world experience gave us the confidence to make it available more broadly.
Why We Built DEXDIA GX
Having looked into the research on grip strength, it actually seemed odd that there was no modern app-enabled grip strength measurement device on the market. The evidence and data behind the importance of grip strength has been increasing for decades now and given how useful measuring grip strength can be (both in terms of understanding general health as well as tracking progress for elite performers), I believed that a modern grip strength measurement device should exist. Having worked on Bluetooth enabled smart devices for almost a decade I knew the potential existed for a modern, smart, and user-friendly grip strength dynamometer.
From Prototype to Product
Building the first prototype was straightforward; turning it into a product was not. What sems like the last 20% of work on a commercial hardware product ends up taking a substantially longer amount of the time. I have gone through this process a few times, yet somehow, this fact still manages to surprise me. Now, after many iterations and extensive testing to achieve the high-quality and thoughtful design one would expect from a smart grip strength dynamometer, the DEXDIA GX is finally ready.

What Guided Our Decisions
Dexdia GX is the only smart grip dynamometer that is available for anyone, not just licensed professionals. It is also the only smart dynamometer with completely free software. Our mobile apps are free and have no monthly subscriptions costs and we are going to keep improving and refining the apps so that for anyone using the DEXDIA GX it actually becomes better over time.
Manufacturing Approach and Launch Strategy
3D printing served us well in prototyping, and it serves us in production, too. It frees us from the timelines and minimums of injection molding, so we can scale production steadily instead of all at once.

With that flexibility, we went ahead with a simple soft launch of our store. It lets us grow production at a sustainable pace and build out the content around DEXDIA GX (this blog post being one of the first steps in these efforts).
The Product Development Process
This post is a small look behind the scenes. I wish that more information would be shared about the development process of smart hardware products so it's something that I will try to do with DEXDIA GX alongside the content focused explicitly on the product and its benefits.
